Current Land Price In Eko Atlantic

Image
QUIETLY but steadily, foundations of a new city are emerging off the shores of the famous Bar beach in Lagos, after whitish sand-water mix was churned out of giant underwater pipes from the Atlantic Ocean for what is apparently the most ambitious and comprehensive mixed use development plan to come on stream in the West Africa sub-region in recent times. Eko Atlantic City is not a common place for plots — it’s a haven for the super rich and corporate bigwigs. Current land prices in this exclusive enclave are now U$1,800 per square metre for inner city plots while plots located along the road and waterfront are significantly higher at US$2,500 / sq. m and US$3,000 / sq. m respectively The project known as Eko Atlantic City stretches further by the day into the Atlantic Ocean, adjacent to Victoria Island in Lagos, under Public-Private-Partnership (PPP) initiative between the Lagos State Government and a private concern Messrs South Energyx Nigeria Limited, developers and city pl...

What Did Ancient Africa Invent?

Image
Africa has been home to billions of people across history, as well as some very important inventions. In this lesson, we'll explore the inventions of ancient Africans and see how they changed human societies. Inventors of The human species evolved on the continent of Africa. This means that Africa has been inhabited longer than any place on Earth. So it's not surprising to learn that some of the greatest inventors in human history were living on this continent. The history of African inventors dates back to before modern humans technically existed. It was our genetic ancestors like Homo erectus who invented stone tools and discovered how to make fire. As soon as anatomically modern humans appeared in Africa, they started creating things too. The fishing hook, bow and arrow, and even boats were first invented by Africans long before the advent of written history. Even as humans started migrating out of Africa, those remaining on the continent just kept on inventing.

Does Africa Have Technology?

Image
Technology, Africa And Learning It is somewhat of a paradox to talk about information and communication technologies in Africa when many people, particularly in rural areas, don't even have access to electricity. When you are hungry, the priority is food, meeting basic needs, struggling to survive and not the latest technologies. Most technologies, electronic networks, computers, etc. are far beyond the reach of the majority. This is not to say, however, that these new technologies don't have a place in Africa. They certainly do, but their application and even potential are still waiting to be defined. What we know is that certain technologies, such as radio and TV, if channelled properly, can and do work in favour of people and it is perhaps on these that we should build our technological base. In many African villages there is often some information and communication technology, like radio, but again it is often out of reach of the poor. The transition towards large...

Nigerian US Based Neurosurgeon Takes Pay Cut To Perform Free Operations

Image
Dr. Olawale Sulaiman is a professor of neurosurgery and spinal surgery and chairman for the neurosurgery department and back and spine center at the Ochsner Neuroscience Institute in New Orleans. Neurosurgeons are known as skilled operators. But straddling surgeries across two continents? That's a different skill entirely. Dr. Olawale Sulaiman, 41, is a professor of neurosurgery and spinal surgery and chairman for the neurosurgery department and back and spine center at the Ochsner Neuroscience Institute in New Orleans. He lives in Louisiana, but splits his time between the US and Nigeria, spending up to 12 days each month providing healthcare in the country of his birth -- sometimes for free. Born in Lagos Island, Lagos, Sulaiman says his motivation comes from growing up in a relatively poor region."I am one of 10 children born into a polygamous family. My siblings and I shared one room where we often found ourselves sleeping on a mat on the floor," he told ...

Nigeria Economic Ties With South Africa

Image
Buhari and Ramaphosa, accompanied by key ministers, discussed various issues, including strengthening economic relations. The Nigerian leader's visit marks the 20th anniversary of a Bi-National Commission (BNC) established between the two countries in 1999. Since then, dozens of trade agreements have been signed between them. In 2018, the total value of trade between them amounted to $3.35bn, making Nigeria South Africa's largest trade partner in West Africa. A joint business forum between South Africa and Nigeria was held on Thursday afternoon. "We want to create an enabling environment for doing business in our respective countries," said Ramaphosa, pointing out road, mining and infrastructure as key areas. The South African leader also acknowledged Nigeria's support in the struggle against apartheid. Buhari said his government is committed to fighting unemployment and poverty in his country. He also promised more opportunities for investors in Nigeri...

Multi-Story Parking System To Be Established In Cairo

Image
The Cairo governorate is currently working on an idea to create smart parking lots with a multi-story platform and a saving space policy to accommodate double the number of cars, in order to lighten traffic congestion and parking dilemmas plaguing Cairo’s streets.Major Hany Shinishin, director of the Housing Directorate in Cairo, said that the new garage system accommodates more than 6 cars in each floor. Shenishin added that they are thinking to use the already existing waiting areas in Cairo to double capacity. He stated that the new smart system of garages can be dismantled and installed at any time and fit in large and small areas, allowing it to be built in crowded places to ease congestion. He added that the garages can be implemented in the narrowest areas, as it can be established in an area 7 meters wide and 7 meters tall, and can be implemented in old buildings, noting that this system comes from Germany. The project will first be established in multiple areas as a test run...

Nigeria, South Africa to set up early warning system over attacks

Image
Pledge to stop xenophobic attacks came during a visit by Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari to South Africa. Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari has met his South African counterpart Cyril Ramaphosa, weeks after xenophobic attacks in Johannesburg triggered tensions between Africa's leading economies.Nigerians were among those targeted during the wave of violence which resulted in the death of 12 people and led to an extraordinary airlift of hundreds of people last month. On Thursday, amid warm smiles and a joint commitment to strengthen bilateral relations, Buhari said the attacks were "unacceptable" and called for preventive measures. "We call for the strengthening and implementation of all the necessary measures to prevent the reoccurrence of such actions," he said. Ramaphosa condemned the violence, saying: "Early warning mechanisms will be set up so that when we see there is restiveness in both of our people ... we will be able to inform one an...

Trump's foul mood leads him deeper into darkness

Image
President Donald Trump is hardly acting like a very stable genius. Instead, his unleashed fury, fact-bending rants and persecution complex are conjuring an image of someone seeing his presidency slipping through his hands. While current political conditions seem unlikely to lead to his ouster from office, Trump appears increasingly powerless to save himself from the historical scar of impeachment. He has crushed just about every norm since descending his golden escalator to launch his 2016 presidential campaign. Now he's reinventing how presidents deal with an existential scandal. And it seems to be leading him deeper into the darkness. After a day of poor media reviews for his unrestrained tirades on Wednesday, Trump became even angrier on Thursday -- calling on Communist China to open an investigation into Joe Biden -- a potential 2020 general election opponent,  "China should start an investigation into the Bidens because what happened in China is ju...

African Building On The Atlantic Ocean

Image
Eko Atlantic is a marvel of modern engineering and technology, and a testament to the rise of Nigeria on the world stage. This new city has evolved rapidly from a visionary design concept into a technological reality. Infrastructural road works and underground surface drainage pipes are already laid along major routes across the new city. All bridges in Phase 1 & 2 of the project have been completed. And the Great Wall of Lagos sea revetment, which is being built more than two kilometers offshore at eight-and-a-half meters above sea level, has surpassed 6 kilometers in length and is now protecting over 6 million square meters of Eko Atlantic and Victoria Island. Across Eko Atlantic, independent reliable electricity, advanced fibre optic telecoms, and clean water utility services are already installed below street level. With the foundations in place, this magnificent engineering and technological city is now rising.

Eko Atlantic Economic Advantage To Nigeria
